A record number of students have signed up for summer research projects this year. These projects are competitively awarded and typically run for 8 weeks in the summer and are funded by EPSRC, the London Mathematical Society, the Department Research Fund, vHive, and the SATRO Research Placement Scheme. The students (supervisors) and project titles this year are listed below:
- Daniel Barclay (David Fisher): Number theory and quadratic reciprocity
- Leilah Forward (Gianne Derks): Modelling and analysis of dog activity data (joint with Alex Cook and Ingrid den Uijl in the Vet School)
- Daniel Horoba (Ian Roulstone): A study of the pressure Hessian matrix for incompressible fluid flow
- Wookyung Kim (Alessandro Torrielli): Bound-state analysis of the quantised KP equation
- Gabi Loram (Anne Skeldon): Mathematical modelling of the entrainment of the circadian timing system by light (This project builds on the collaboration of Dr Skeldon with Prof Derk-Jan Dijk of the Surrey Sleep Research Centre.)
- Dan Mansfield (Jon Bevan & Dave Lloyd): Exploring new multi-well shear models in elastic materials
- Elliott Myers (David Fisher): Number theory and cryptology
