Jock McOrist is an Academic Visitor at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford, during the Easter and Summer terms, collaborating with Professor Philip Candelas FRS and Professor Xenia de la Ossa. The research project is part of a long-standing project concerning the relations between heterotic string theory and geometry. They are particularly interested in the role of quantum corrections both perturbative and non-perturbative and their influence on the geometry of the moduli spaces underlying heterotic string theories. A recent paper emerging from this collaboration is The universal geometry of heterotic vacua, co-authored by Candelas, de la Ossa, McOrist, and his Surrey PhD student Roberto Sisca, and published in the Journal of High Energy Physics.
