Carina Dunlop was at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge the first week of September (4-8 Sept) to participate in the workshop on “Active mechanics, from single cells to cell layers, tissues and development” (link here). The meeting brought mathematicians, physicists and cell biologists together to look at methodologies for modelling active cell behaviors in the context of both individual cell experimental studies as well as tissue level investigations. Carina gave a talk on modelling active cell mechanics with continuum models, specifically looking at the role of adhesion patterning (link to abstract here, and precise title: “What do cells and tissues feel?
