Emir Ahmed, an undergraduate in mathematics, is on placement this year at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington, supervised at NPL by Dr Ciaran Bench. As part of his placement, in the Data Science and AI group, he presented a paper at the 47th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC 2025), held in Copenhagen 14-17 July. The paper was entitled “Style transfer as data augmentation: evaluating unpaired image-to-image translation models in mammography“, with co-authors Spencer Thomas and Ciaran Bench (both at NPL). Moreover, two papers on which he is a co-author have been accepted for publication. Emir’s placement tutor is Polina Vytnova.
