Quantum team (Gutowski, Rocco, Torrielli, Wolf) awarded STFC Consolidator grant

STFC (Science and Technology Facilities Council) has awarded a Consolidator grant of £13,480 to a team in the Quantum Group. The PI was Alessandro Torrielli, and the Co-Is were Jan Gutowski, Andrea Rocco, and Martin Wolf. The grant runs from 2026 to 2030. Background on the project and its overarching aims are below.

Quantum theory revolutionized physics and powers modern technologies, and its unification with Einstein’s foundational idea of spacetime yields Quantum Field Theory (QFT). This project focuses on QFT as a powerful computational tool to address fundamental problems in low-dimensional physics, in perturbation theory, and in the theory of open quantum systems in the presence of a thermal environment. Our team has a consolidated and unique expertise in these areas, and a strong synergy to tackle the proposed research problems.

This is a welcome award in light of the recent turmoil in STFC with a proposed 35% cut in funding for consolidator grants (link here, and screenshot below).
