Alessandro Torrielli has been invited to give one of three plenary lectures at a conference on “Selected Topics in Theoretical High Energy Physics” held at the Free University of Tbilisi in Georgia during 21-27 September 2015. Alessandro will be speaking on “Lower dimensional AdS/CFT correspondences and their integrability“.  The website for the conference is here.

Congratulations to James Wright who passed his PhD viva today. The title of his thesis is “On the stability and basins of attraction of forced nonlinear oscillators” and the work was supervised by Michele Bartuccelli and Jonathan Deane. The external examiner was Steven Bishop (UCL) and the internal examiner was Anne Skeldon.

Daniel Ratliff is attending the British Science Festival 2015 this week, 7-10 September in Bradford.  Daniel was one of two PhD students in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences to be selected for sponsorship.  The award includes accommodation for five nights, travel, and free tickets to a selection of events and the student social.

The paper “Geometry and symmetry of quantum and classical-quantum variational principles” by Esther Bonet Luz and Cesare Tronci has been published online today by the Journal of Mathematical Physics. Congratulations to Anton Savostianov who passed his Phd viva today.   The external examiner was Michael Ruzhansky (Imperial) and the internal examiner was Claudia Wulff.  Anton’s PhD project is on “Strichartz estimates and smooth attractors of dissipative hyperbolic equations“, supervised by Sergey Zelik.  Anton will take up a postdoc position in France in the autumn.
