Hola, hola, hola!

Hello everyone, my name is Miguel and I am a final year Aerospace Engineering student here at Surrey. I have been living and studying in Guildford since 2018, so I hope you will find some of my experience useful!

A long, long, time ago, I was born in Madrid. I was only there for a short time though; in fact, I grew up in an entirely different place: the Canary Islands! More specifically, on the beautiful island of Gran Canaria. I studied at a British school that allowed me to learn English and take A-Levels, making the process of joining a University in the UK a little easier.

Travelling to England and adapting to the culture and the country in general was quite an experience. For starters, it was the first time I bought a proper winter jacket! Even though it was easy to often miss the warmer Spanish climate I grew up with, I must say I absolutely loved being able to experience the seasons the way I have here in Surrey, especially the snowy winters. Building snowmen, throwing snowballs, and sliding down snowy hills have all been activities I experienced here for the first time, and what a blast of a time have I had!

University culture is quite different here as well, everything from lectures and managing your studies, to societies, events and very importantly, something which I might know a little too much about, partying! With my blog posts this year I hope to be able to share some information and stories on these and many more topics to give you a complete picture of what life is like at the University of Surrey for a Spanish student.

(Spoiler alert, it’s pretty damn cool).

Nos vemos pronto!

Miguel

A picture of my first flight to Gatwick from Gran Canaria, I would come to learn a lot more about wings like these!
The view from my third year house in winter, moments away from dashing outside to build a snowman.
A summer moon over Stoke Park. Also, my foot.
