Comida Española en Surrey!

Hola amigos, today’s blog is for those of you who might fill homesick on some occasions. It is especially on those days where having something to eat which brings memories from home might make you fill a little better! It is because of this, that I wanted to summarize some places in Guildford where you can eat Spanish or South American food. Just in case somebody wonder, I have no conflicts of interest here!

1) On Thursdays, there is a van which sells stake-away seafood or chicken Paella. They are usually near the 5G Building, or near the Front Room.

2) In Guildford town centre you will find a couple of Spanish restaurants which sell “tapas” and many others. Namely “Denada” and “La Casita”. I have not tried them out myself, but I know that they have a good review in TripAdvisor.

3) In Guildford town centre, there is a relatively new Mexican food restaurant. I really enjoyed the food, although I must admit it was quite spicy!

Alternatively, you can always cook some home-like dishes by yourself. Making “Lentejas” is a very easy, tasty and nutritious meal, but I must admit it does take longer than other dishes, like a “Tortilla de Papas”. The meal which most reminds of home is “Papas Arrugadas” or “Croquetas de Pescado”. There are plenty of videos in YouTube on how to cook these meals, so if you have a bit of free time and fancy trying out something which you would not usually it at in Surrey…give it a go!

Note too that the University of Surrey is very supportive. If you do feel homesick at some point, and would like support, contact the Centre for Wellbeing (which is on Campus) or contact the “Disability and Neurodiversity” services and support team on Campus!

Tip: Make sure you clean the potatoes properly before cooking them…they can sometimes have small stones attached!
