Hi everyone! It’s December and some of you might think about renting a house to or finding student accommodation for next year. In today’s blog, I will share my thoughts and experience with you about the options for living and renting processes.

First, if you are a prospective student at University, finding housing is easy. The University guarantees university accommodation for you! There are three campuses belonging to the University of Surrey: Stag Hill, Manor Park and Hazel farm. The first one is where I lived in the first year, and it is extremely well located. 5 minutes away from town centre, 4 minutes or fewer away from the library and so forth Manor Park and Hazel farm are further away, but you can quickly arrive there by bus. Living on campus provides an amazing first year experience because of all the new experiences and people which you meet!             

If you are already at university, you have more options. If you are planning to live friends, then check out the “Rightmove”. It is an online searcher of accommodations, which you can sort by price, number of beds, property types, number of toilets, locations, furnished, and many more. “Kayak” is another accommodation finder which I have used in the past. Through these, you can see pictures of the prospective houses, besides getting in contact with either the property owners or the state agency to arrange for tours of the houses and ad hoc paperwork. In my experience, Woodbridge area and GPA area offer the best compromise in between quality of housing, cost of housing and location.

Alternatively, you can also live in Student Accommodations. There are plenty of them in Guildford, 5 minutes away from Stag Hill Campus. If you are planning to live alone, you can always apply to university accommodation. I do not guarantee that they will grant you university housing, since they only guaranteed it to first-year students. But I have friends who have done it in the past. The best of this is that you don’t have to manage electricity, gas and water bills!!

Tip: Because of the housing constructions in the UK, make sure you keep your room well ventilated to avoid mould building up!
