Results day may seem like the scariest day. Not getting the grades that you wanted or not going to the university that you wanted might seem like the end of the world at the time. However, I am here to tell you about my experience and why I am glad that everything turned out the way it did for me.

Life at Surrey
I am so happy that I came to Surrey through Clearing as I got to meet the most amazing people in my life. People at Surrey are honestly the loveliest people I have ever met. Through all the different societies I have found so many friends and the most amazing thing is that each one of them is so different and I love it. I joined the yoga, Ukrainian and the Economics and Finance societies which are all great in different ways. You will get to meet so many people here and if you are worried about making friends, trust me, it is not going to be a problem at all!
I absolutely love the area of Guildford and the Surrey countryside. I get to live so close to London, which is 35 minutes away by train and I get to see all the nice countryside places around. I find it a perfect balance, and you can choose what you prefer that day, whether it is city life or countryside views.
The other reason I decided to join Surrey is my course. Originally, I had applied to do Economics, however when it came to results day, I knew that I wanted to have a bit more maths involved, so when I saw that Surrey had the course Economics and Mathematics, I knew that it would be perfect for me. I am really enjoying my course right now and I have not regretted it for a single day.
I knew while I was doing my A-Levels I would prefer if the university offered a placement year. However, at the time I applied, not every university offered one, so when I saw that Surrey offered a placement year, I was excited. Now after spending two years at the university, I can say that it worked out for me and I am going on a placement in a couple of days. I am very excited to start my placement, and I know this would not have happened if I didn’t join Surrey and had the help of the amazing careers team that we have.
I knew Surrey was the place for me because of how much there is to do. The Students’ Union organises so many events that we can attend and so many activities, it is amazing. I am also very excited that we get to have our own Wetherspoons on campus in July. This is what I am waiting for. Everyone is very excited for the opening.
My advice to you
If you are thinking of applying through Clearing, do it!
When applying through Clearing, you should look at whether it is a campus-based university or a city-based university. Different people prefer different things and that is fine. You want to make sure that you are going to be going somewhere that you are comfortable.
I did my research on all the possible options I had and planned it, so when the results came out, I was ready to call and knew which universities I would like to go to.
Preparation helped me so much to feel less stressed on the day while you have mixed emotions and do not know what to do.
Do not be scared. Clearing might feel stressful, but it is just redirection in life. I do not regret a single bit that I came to Surrey. I am grateful for everything I have achieved here and for the people I have got to know. This is the best decision I have made in my life.
