Student support during the spring vacation

Easter is over and we’ve still got one week of spring vacation left! Today we’re going to talk about what student support is available during this period of time, and how this might be relevant for you.

A lot of international students choose to stay on campus during the vacation and wellbeing support is one of the university’s key focus. On campus Security services will still be available 24/7 as normal, so you can contact them if you need emergency assistance or have any concerns about your safety. If you are staying in halls then you can also still contact the Residential Life team whenever you need them.

The Centre for Wellbeing will be closed between Thursday 6 April – Wednesday 12 April, reopening as normal on Thrsday 13 April. Peer Supporters Online will be available every evening throughout the Easter/spring vacation (7pm – 9pm). Chaplains will also be on call throughout this period, get in touch via email if you wish to meet with a Chaplain during this period of time.

The Centre for Wellbeing is located next to the Duke of Kent building. They offer advice and support for mental, emotional and psychological issues, as well as signposting to clinical services to ensure that our students feel well and supported throughout their time at the University.
The Religious Life and Belief Centre is run by a team of 26 people including 16
Chaplains (Faith and Belief Workers) from eight faiths and the humanist tradition.

A number of students may be preparing for exams during the vacation, and it would be useful to know what study spaces are available as well! MySurrey Hive, Nest and Spark will open as normal for study and social space – 8:30am – 11pm daily. The MySurrey Hive team and other support services will be unavailable between Thursday 6 – Wednesday 12 April. Normal service will resume on Thursday 13 April.

The Library building will continue to be open 24/7 throughout the spring vacation and over the May bank holidays. It will be staffed by the Security team. Loans will be extended over the University closure days (6 – 12 April). No items will be due for return or recalled on these dates. Normal loan rules apply for all other days over the vacation.

MySurrey Hive has open seating areas and pods to provide options for informal study and meeting.
MySurrey Nest is a relaxing social space with comfortable chairs and sofas.
The Library will remain open, and study spaces inside are available to use.

If you are looking for places to chat with friends or grab a bite on campus, many venues like Bench Sports Bar and Pitchside Coffee, Wates House, Hillside Restaurant and Hillside Coffee Shop will be open throughout most of the spring break.

The Bench Sports Bar and Pitchside Coffee located in Surrey Sports Park.
The spacious and vibrant vibe in Wates House is always a good place to meet up with friends!
Hillside Restaurant offer student-friendly price meals, including pizza, fish & chips and more.

Hope you find this information useful. Enjoy the rest of our Easter/spring vacation and see you in a few weeks!
