It might sound challenging to start preparing and budgeting your own meals at first right after the start of school. However, there are some spaghetti recipes that are easy and very affordable. Therefore, I would like to introduce some of those today as a Japanese student, who loves spaghetti, at the University of Surrey.

Carbonara
Ingredients
- 2 slices of cheese
- Milk (50~100mL)
- Garlic (Solid, dried, paste, or in whatever condition)
- Salt (a little)
- Pepper (more than salt)
- Spaghetti noodle (for one person)
The taste depends on the quality of the cheese you choose. Additionally, that tastes better if you add some bacon to the Carbonara.
Basil Spaghetti
Ingredients
- Garlic (raw, paste, powder or in whatever condition)
- Basil (more than garlic & raw, paste, powder or in whatever condition)
- Salt (a little)
- Pepper (a little)
- Spaghetti noodle (for one person)
In this recipe, there is no salty taste from slices of cheese as Carbonara has, so adding more salt than Carbonara is recommended. If you add cheese (especially the one for pizza), this basil spaghetti will be closer to Genovese.
Non-spicy Peperoncino
Ingredients
- Oil (a little)
- Garlic (raw, paste, powder or in whatever condition)
- Salt (a little)
- Pepper (a little)
- Spaghetti noodle (for one person)
If you like the original spicy taste of Peperoncino, you can add raw or powdered spice to these ingredients.
Butter Soy Sauce Spaghetti
Ingredients
- Soy Sauce (adjust the taste by adding little by little)
- Butter or Spread (the same amount as putting on a toast)
- Salt (if necessary)
- Pepper (a little)
- Spaghetti noodle (for one person)
It will be better if there is chicken or bacon to add to the spaghetti. When you add, you can cut it into small pieces and cook right after you boil the noodles in the same pan.
Cream Soup Spaghetti
Ingredients
- Milk (50~100mL)
- Stock Cube (1/4~3/4 of a cube) ← adjust the taste by adding little by little
- Salt (a little)
- Pepper (a little)
- Spaghetti noodle (for one person)
Using only these ingredients is good, but that will be better if there are mushrooms, spinach, or/and bacon.
Thank you very much for checking these recipes. At the accommodations of the University of Surrey, there is both a stove and an oven, in my flat at least, so you will be able to cook a variety of meals. I hope this blog helps you broaden, even a little, ideas of things you can cook. Please have a good day.
