Leverhulme grant led by Bin Cheng awarded to the University

The Leverhulme Trust has awarded a four-year research grant to the University of Surrey on “Mathematical analysis of  *near resonance* in the physical world of finiteness”.  The grant will be led by Bin Cheng, with co-applicants Beth Wingate (Exeter), Alex Mahalov (Arizona State), and Steve Schochet (Tel Aviv).  The grant funds a PDRA for 4 years, provides teaching cover for Beth Wingate and Bin Cheng, travel funds for the team, and equipment.  The grant begins in Spring 2017. The project employs mathematical analysis to explore finiteness of small physical parameters and its effects on resonances for systems of nonlinear partial differential equations modelling multi-dimensional geophysical fluid dynamics.   Picture credit: [T.
