FEPS Dean Paul Smith visits Department of Mathematics

Professor Paul Smith, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, visited the Department today (Thursday 1 February) to discuss new initiatives in the faculty and university and take feedback from the Department. He indicated his strong support for the strategic importance of mathematics in FEPS, the importance of core mathematics, and value of interdisciplinary interactions.  He outlined a range of opportunities for interdisciplinary projects across the university:  opportunities within the new Medical School, recent developments in our strategic partnership with the National Physical Laboratory, an update on the implications of the Nous Report, and potential collaborations with the Vet School.  It was an engaging and productive meeting.  The picture below shows HoD and the Dean in a pre-meeting strategy session.
