Mathematical model of Dorje Brody and David Meier captures the political impact of fake news

In the paper “How to model fake news” by Dorje Brody and David Meier (Brunel University), a mathematical model for fake news based on the theory of information is developed.  A definition is given and two approaches for the modelling of fake news and its impact in elections are introduced.  A preprint of the paper can be found on the arXiv (link here), and a popular article on the work has been published in the MIT Techology Review (link here). The figure on the left is Figure 3 from the above paper.  Based on this work, Prof Brody has submitted written evidence to the Fake News Inquiry currently underway in the UK Parliament (link here).
