Philip Aston attended the First IMA Conference on Knowledge Exchange in the Mathematical Sciences which was held at Aston University on 3rd-4th December organised by Alan Champneys and Richard Pinch. The first day consisted of talks which provided an overview of knowledge exchange activities that are taking place in various institutions around the UK, as well as a wider perspective of activity in Europe and around the world. Speakers included Dietmar Hömberg (Berlin), Jonathan Dawes (Bath), Tony Mulholland (Strathclyde) and Hilary Ockendon (Oxford). The second day consisted of discussion sessions which considered what a National Centre for Knowledge Exchange might look like (as recommended in the Bond Report on Knowledge Exchange) and possible career structures for people working in KE.
