Philip Aston awarded EPSRC Impact Acceleration Grant for medical data analysis

It is now straightforward to collect large quantities of physiological data, such as blood pressure and ECG. The key challenge is to unlock the information in these complex data sets. In both heart conditions and infection, early detection allows for critical interventions that will save lives and reduce chronic morbidities. The attractor reconstruction (AR) method […]

Paper of Bartuccelli & Dean appears in Monthly Notices Royal Astronomical Society

The paper “Periodic and quasi-periodic attractors for the spin-orbit evolution of Mercury with a realistic tidal torque“, co-authored by M.V. Bartuccelli, J.H.B. Deane, and G. Gentile (Roma III) has been accepted for publication in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. In the paper, they make a detailed study of the spin-orbit dynamics of […]

Ian Morris and Martin Wolf promoted to Senior Lecturer

Congratulations to Ian Morris and Martin Wolf for promotion to Senior Lecturer.  These promotions took effect on 1st April 2017.  Ian is a member of the Dynamical Systems and nonlinear PDEs research group, and Martin is a member of the Fields, Strings, and Geometry research group.  The picture below shows a self-affine fractal generated in […]

Anne Skeldon paper appears in Scientific Reports and picked up by BBC and the print media

The paper The effects of self-selected light-dark cycles and social constraints on human sleep and circadian timing: a modeling approach, co-authored by Anne Skeldon, Andrew Phillips (Harvard), and Derk-Jan Dijk (FHMS, Surrey) has been published in the journal Scientific Reports.  The paper is attracting considerable media attention.  Anne spoke on BBC Surrey radio today (28 […]

David Lloyd promoted to Reader in Mathematics

Congratulations to David Lloyd who has been promoted to Reader in Mathematics.  Dave’s research is wide ranging, from core research in dynamical systems and localised pattern formation, to mathematical modelling in life sciences, to analysis of fluids, and also includes leadership of an impact case study for REF. Dave’s promotion becomes effective in April 2017.
