Guildford, Surrey

Hey guys!

Time flies and its already the start of March! How is everyone doing lately? These weeks have been really cold with some of the fields frosted, even though it is supposed to be Spring now! It is going to be a cold week ahead.. weather forecast showed that the lowest is -2 with the highest at 12 Degrees Celsius! There has been so much going on lately, with school work piling up and activities going on almost everyday!

Today I will be sharing with you about the town I have been living in for the past two years, Guildford, and the school that I have attended – Surrey. Guildford is situated approximately 34minutes from London, with frequent train services available.

The University itself looks really modern and there is an array of facilities available catered just for students! Within the university, there is also playing fields and a picturesque lake, as seen in the photograph above! That picture is taken from the University’s Facebook, during January 2016. Apart from these, the Surrey Sports Park is also a renowned world-class development that housed teams and sports events.

Also, the new School of Veterinary Medicine has opened in late summer 2015, which is one of only eight in the UK. The Queen was invited for the opening as well! Didn’t managed to see the Queen as I had a 2 hour lecture that day. 🙁 This establishment has put Surrey on the map as a pioneering centre for interdisciplinary research to improve animal and human health! 🙂 Surrey has also been named the ‘University of the Year’ by the Times and Sunday Times! Not sure about you, but I am really proud to be a student from Surrey!

Guildford is located in the South-East England and has been consistently rated one of the best places to live in Britain! 🙂 The town is well known to be safe and affluent. There are also many shops and restaurants in town! Shops like Zara, H&M, Primark, Hollister, Top Shop, Superdry and River Island etc. There are also a variety of food options from Thai at Rumwong, to Chinese cuisines at Jasmine Garden and Spanish at La Cista. There are so much more that I did not mention above, such as Loch Fyne for great seafood, Giraffe, family-friendly restaurant and Creams – they serve fantastic ice-cream and waffles! This town isn’t as remote as what you would expect! Hence, do not be too worried about not having your food cravings satisfied! If there isn’t any here, you can always take a train to London! 🙂

Apart from these, there is also many good places to hang out at night! Some of these includes Weatherspoon, where they have alcohol in jugs, ideal for group gatherings; all-bar-one for cocktails and thirteen for clubbers! There is also a club within the university, which is convenient for a night out 🙂 At times, some societies would host a night out to London as well! Further, there is a bus service that runs late into the night which links the University’s campus with the town!

Hope this gives you more insight of the town that you might be living in, if you decide to choose Surrey!

Till next time; xx
