Gbedu & Vibes

Hey guys,

So I thought I’d switch it up a bit from my last post which was serious and academic to something more entertaining and fun. As well as providing the best for its students in terms of academics and education, the university of surrey also accommodates a very bubbly night life with the help of its student union. When people tell stories about their university days and the things that they did you often hear about how often they partied and about the wild, drunk nights they experienced. So prior to getting into university we all anticipate all this clubbing and partying, this is when we begin to hear about the famous “freshers week” which all universities hold. Freshers week usually involves a lineup of various events during your first week at university before the commencement of lectures, but you’ll start getting emails about the various events taking place well in advance. The events vary from foam parties to headphone parties and usually feature guest artists and dj’s such as lethal bizzle, mist, e.t.c and usually take place in the night club on campus, rubix. It is a great opportunity for you to meet new people, have fun and relax yourself into your new surroundings. If you are staying on campus your flat mates would probably have pre-drinks before you guys head out for you to socialise and make new friends in your new university. A lot of students attend these events so it is also advisable to buy your tickets once you start getting emails about freshers week as they sell out FAST.

After freshers week the student union still keeps things going during the semester with different events during the week. So on Wednesdays every week the student union organises an event called citrus, on Fridays theres an event called flirt which goes on in a lot of universities in the uk and is the #1 student night in the uk. Various guest artists have also appeared at the university during flirt such as stormzy, krept and konan and section boyz, so keep an eye out for the posters on campus and also follow the student unions facebook page. Asides these weekly events the student union also organises random events in rubix such as comedy nights, talent hunts and various themed nights. There are also some decent clubs off campus such as bar 13, casino and legion which also hold their own events and are walking distance from the campus. Now if you’re looking for proper gbedu and vibes, I’m talking about afrobeats that you can shaku shaku to, there are two entertainment groups that organise events in guildford which are crave and frisky. They book the clubs in the town centre and organise their own events from time to time so keep an eye out on their twitter and facebook pages. Crave is organised by nigerian students in the university and their events are usually lit, I can personally vouch for them and guarantee you good afrobeats and vibes. So there really is always something to do on a night out in guildford.

Till next time,

Korede.
