The most regular writer of this blog, Dr Richard Sear, is clearly too modest to announce here that he has started his own independent blog, entitled Chance and Necessity. I, on the other hand, have no such qualms in recommending that readers of our Departmental Blog add Richard’s separate blog to their reading list. I have certainly added it to mine. I also can use this post as an opportunity to include a picture of Richard in a contemplative pose.

My other reason for posting is to advertise our forthcoming Institute of Physics evening talks, which are open to all to attend. They are aimed (as is this blog) at a general audience, are free to come to, and no pre-booking is required. The full details are available at the IoP’s online calendar.
