Places to visit in under 1 hour from University of Surrey

Moving to a new place for University provides the perfect opportunity to explore the surrounding area. The University of Surrey’s Stag Hill campus is only a 20 minute walk from Guildford train station, making it even easier to explore places a little further than Guildford. Continue reading to hear about places you could visit, which are located less than a 1 hour journey from the University of Surrey.

New Victoria Theatre in Woking

Woking is approximately a 10 minute train journey from Guildford train station, making it a great place to visit. The New Victoria Theatre is a 10 minute walk from Woking train station and has a variety of shows on offer… from musicals, to comedy sketches and live concerts.

Thorpe Park

For students who love the adrenaline rush from rollercoasters, Thorpe Park is roughly a 30 minute drive from Guildford, and is also accessible by train.

National Trusts

There are a variety National Trust parks around Guildford. If you enjoy going on scenic walks, you can purchase a membership or pay as you go. Below is a list of some of the local Trusts.

  • River Wey and Godalming Navigations and Dapdune Wharf (~15 minute walk)
  • Winkworth Arboretum (~1 hour by public transport or 20 minutes by car)
  • Hydon’s Ball and Heath (~20 minutes by car)

Leith Hill

Leith Hill is within the Surrey Hills and is the highest point in south-east England… making it a great place for walks and views! It’s approximately a 30 minute drive away.

Stoke Park

Stoke Park is a 10 minute drive or 25 minute walk from the University of Surrey, and it the largest park in Guildford. There is a model boating pond, fitness trail, skate park, playground, paddling pool, and food and drink kiosks.

London

London Waterloo is only a 35 minute train journey from Guildford train station. There are so many things to do and see in London… here are some ideas:

Alice Holt Forest

Alice Holt Forest is roughly a 30 minute car journey from the University of Surrey. There is a variety of activities on offer including trails, health and activity sessions, and Go Ape.

The Spectrum

The Spectrum is a leisure complex, where you can go bowling, swimming, ice skating, or use its gym facilities. It’s approximately a 33 minute walk, 8 minute drive, or 30 minute bus ride away!

G Live

Being a 30 minute walk away from the University of Surrey, G Live is a great live concert venue for students. It offers a number of events from dance and theatre, to live music and comedy!
