Greetings from Guildford, where the sun is shining with 2 degrees ❄️
The 1st semester (or term) ended last Thursday for me and it’s great to have some time off. Well, let me explain a little bit.
This is indeed the “Christmas break” 🎄and I won’t have any more classes (or lectures) for the rest of the 1st semester, however I do have 4 assignments which are due early January.
Aside from sharing my life here as a Master student at Surrey and talk about academics, I have decided to share my travel adventures as well ( much more fun right ? ) and called them “Explore the UK 🇬🇧” series.
What I found out way back in my undergraduate years in the US 🇺🇸 and even now as I am completing my master in the UK 🇬🇧 is that…your experience at the University goes way beyond the academics.
It’s about meeting new people & making new friends, learning about their cultures and traveling as well.
Aside from its great location, being only a 40 minutes’ train ride away from London, the town of Guildford is also less than 2 hours away from wonderful cities such as Oxford and Brighton and a little bit over 2 hours for Bath.
For this week’s blog post let’s go to Oxford 🇬🇧 together, shall we?
My trip to Oxford was the 1st one I took as a University of Surrey student. The trip was organized by the Student Union and was very affordable: 12.50 pounds ,if I remember correctly for a one day round trip.
Places to visit in Oxford?
The Bodleian Library; one oldest public library in the world.
Christ Church; the largest of all Oxford’s colleges and one of the location for the Harry Potter movie
The Ashmolean Museum; Britain’s oldest public museum established in 1683
University Church of St Mary the Virgin; the view from its tower is by far the best of the city. Just for your information you might have to wait for about 20 minutes or so and it costs 4 pounds.
For the next blog posts, I will continue my “Explore the UK series” by taking you to Bath and Brighton.
Thank you for reading,
Until next time
