Werner Bauer co-organised a session on algorithm design for earth-system modelling at EGU 26 in Vienna

Werner Bauer was in Vienna last week (3-8 May) to attend the European Geosciences Union 2026 General Assembly meeting. EGU 26 welcomed 22,497 registered attendees from 125 countries (main website here). Werner co-organised a session (with Jemma Shipton (Exeter), Daniel Ruprecht (Hamburg University), and Hiroe Yamazaki (Imperial College)) on “Advances in algorithm design for numerical earth system modelling“. A link to the session with speakers an abstracts is here. In addition, Werner (with collaborators Golo Wimmer (Los Alamos) and Xian-Zhu Tang (Los Alamos)) presented a poster on “Structure preserving, transport stabilized finite element methods for two-fluid magnetohydrodynamics“. The photo below shows Werner and his co-convenor Jemma Shipton at the conference.
