About me

Daisy Shearer

Postgraduate Research Student Department of Physics (ATI)

I am a PhD candidate in experimental physics at the University of Surrey’s Advanced Technology Institute. My PhD research focuses on semiconductor spintronics for quantum technology applications. Specifically, I work with strongly spin-orbit coupled III-V semiconductors to create spin-polarized currents through direct-write fabrication of nanostructures. I did an MPhys in Physics at the University of Surrey (2014-2018) where my master’s research project involved working in R&D at the Centre for Integrated Photonics developing High-Speed Electroabsorption Modulated Lasers (EMLs) for long-haul telecommunications. When I'm not in the lab, I write for the Physics World website as a student contributor and enjoy reading, baking, gardening, knitting and scuba diving.
