My 5 tips for applying for placement at GSK – Chloe, Biomedical Science

I spent my professional training year at GSK and I would encourage anyone who is considering applying for placement to give it a go. Start with researching the types of placement you would be interested in. Ask yourself if you would prefer to be lab based or office based.

Starting out as a university student can be daunting and so one of my biggest challenges was the transition from student to employee. I learnt on the job, and although there was an expectance of independency, it was the situations where I was put out of my comfort zone where I learnt and progressed the most.

The Employability Award was an immensely valuable journey as it gave me the chance to label my experiences as professionally relevant. I found the section for transferable skills particularly intriguing, and it feels like I know myself better now. It is good to do whatever makes you feel alive, but it is even better when it is relevant for your future!
