Student Life Mentors can work towards a Learning Through Experience Certificate (LTEC) during the year. The LTEC provides the opportunity for Mentors to reflect on their work as a Mentor in a structured way. This week marks the end of the presentations for the LTECs, where after writing a report or submitted a concept map, Mentors working towards the award present an overview of their year for 5 minutes to other Mentors and the Student Life staff team. It’s always such a rewarding experience for the Mentors (and staff) to hear a summary of the experiences of Mentors – no experience is the same, but what they all have in common is how grateful they are to have had the opportunity to make a difference in first year students’ lives and how they have grown as individuals themselves. The last Mentor told us she had learnt to worry less and be more self confident – it’s fantastic to know that Student Life Mentoring is able to benefit not only the student mentees the Mentors visit each week, but also life skills for the Mentors themselves.
